Polygamy in Islam

Published by fayeeh under Islam, Marriage Edit This

Many are wondering why a Muslim man is allowed to marry more than one wife.  In short, why is polygamy allowed in Islam?

First, we have to define what is Polygamy:

Polygamy means a system of marriage whereby one person has more than one spouse. Polygamy can be of two types. One is polygyny where a man marries more than one woman, and the other is polyandry, where a woman marries more than one man. In Islam, limited polygyny is permitted; whereas polyandry is completely prohibited.

Now coming to the original question, why is a man allowed to have more than one wife? Continue Reading »

Muslims are Fundamentalists

Published by fayeeh under Fundamentalists, Muslims Edit This

“I am proud to be a Muslim fundamentalist,” said Dr. Zakir Naik.

Oops, finish reading first before you react!

As Dr. Zakir Naik said, a fundamentalist is a person who follows and adheres to the fundamentals of the doctrine or theory he is following. For a person to be a good doctor, he should know, follow, and practice the fundamentals of medicine. In other words, he should be a fundamentalist in the field of medicine. For a person to be a good mathematician, he should know, follow and practice the fundamentals of mathematics. He should be a fundamentalist in the field of mathematics. For a person to be a good scientist, he should know, follow and practice the fundamentals of science. He should be a fundamentalist in the field of science. Continue Reading »

I Spent 3 days

Published by fayeeh under Mashthurat Edit This

During the last week of November 2008, three (3) couples including us (me and my husband) went to our nearby prefecture to visit other Muslims residing there.  The travel was about three and a half hour.  During the travel, the wives were seating at the back with a plain cloth hanging in front of us that serves as a cover to avoid husbands from seeing us.  I was really shocked because it was my first time to join a 3 day mashthurat.  I didn’t know that we must cover our face or wear niqab.

During that 3 days, wives were staying in a house together with other Muslim women leaving in that city and we’re doing religious works from morning until evening except meal times while the husbands stayed in  a Masjeed (mosque).  You might wonder what we were doing, right?  As I have said we were doing religious works.  Usually the men will talk about the agenda themselves and make a program for the women.  After giving the programme to us, women must follow whatever is says.  That programme includes the topic we were going to tackle and study, the time to eat and time to turn off the lights.  It is important to observe the programme, its time, whatever it says.  It shows that we obey our husband.  Also, we were reminded to behave since we were just a guest in that house.

As a conclusion, the 3 day mashthurat  helped me to correct myself to the will of Almighty God, Allah.  I know, I was born as a Muslim but I wasn’t fully practicing Islam.  Fully means, I was practicing but some were incorrect.  I’ve learned more knowledge about Islam.

What was changed in me after that 3 day journey to the path of Allah?

1.  Well, I am now praying five (5) times a day observing the right time (punctuality).

2.  I always make zikr (remembering Allah) from time to time.

3.  It changed the way I dress.  I am the modest one right now wearing abaya and proper hijab.

4.  I think, me and my husband got more closer.  Even before we had a really good relationship but right now, the more we became sweeter with each other considering too, that our hearts are both hungry to learn more knowledge about Islam.  We became compatible, because we both seek and want to fully submit ourselves to the will of Allah.

Alhamdulillah, I joined that 3 day mashthurat. It is actually considered jihad, since it was a struggle to myself going in the path of Allah. I am looking forward to the next mashturat, InshaAllah.

Meaning of Islam

Published by fayeeh under Islam Edit This

Islam is derived from the word Salaam means Peace.   It also means Submission to the will of Allah (swt) i.e. the God Almighty.  When you say Muslim, It is the one who submits his will to Allah.  Therefore, Islam is not a new religion found by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Muslims accept the Qur’an, as the word of God revealed to His last and final prophet, Muhammad (peace be upon him). Islam states that Allah sent messengers and prophets throughout the ages with the message of Unity of God, and accountability in the Hereafter. Islam thus makes it an article of faith to believe in all the earlier prophets, starting with Adam, and continuing with Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, John and Jesus amongst many others (may peace be on them all).
